In April 2010 Labour Behind the Label emailed the main buyers at the DESA factory asking them to take action to uphold an agreement that their supplier signed with the Deri Is union in August 2009. All of them refused to take the steps needed to convince DESA to respect its workers' right to join a trade union free from harassment. Write to them today to call on them to act in support of trade union rights at their Turkish supplier.
In August 2009 we agreed to stop our international campaign against DESA as part of a protocol signed by the owner, Mr Celet, and the Deri Is union. In good faith we stopped the campaign and wrote to his buyers urging them to support steps toward a fully unionised factory. Mr Celet did not respond in good faith and has refused to deliver on any of the commitments he made at the time.
Email Mr Celet today calling on him to respect his workers' right to join a trade union and to stick to the agreement he made with the Deri Is union.
