Indonesian workers producing the new England kit, launched before the start of the World Cup 2012 competition are earning poverty wages and toiling in terrible conditions according to an investigation by the UK Sunday tabloid, the News of the World.
The widespread abuse of workers rights in sportswear supply chains is now well known. Most of the large sportswear retailers have developed policies that they claim will tackle these issues. Yet substantial violations of worker rights and poverty wages are still the norm for hundreds of thousands of workers in the sportswear industry.
As the frenzy grows over the upcoming FIFA World Cup in South Africa, there is a part of the World Cup that won’t be broadcast on TV.
