Sportswear industry shamed by new allegations on working conditions

Just four months before the Olympic baton is passed from Beijing to London, the Playfair2008 alliance (supported by the TUC and Labour behind the label) has released a damning, name-and-shame indictment of factory working conditions in the sports wear industry.

Call for the release of Chinese shoe workers

5 workers from the Panyu Li Chang Footwear Co. Ltd in Panyu district of Guangzhou City have been detained and formally arrested and detained on criminal charges for illegal assembly following a peaceful demonstration against the overnight closure of the factory and the theft of their wages and social security payments.

Take action today to demand the immediate and unconditional release of the five workers who spontaneously and peacefully walked with their fellow workers to report the factory owner’s crime and call on the authorities for help.

Who foots the bill? Support homeworkers making your shoes

"Who Foots the Bill?" is a campaign run jointly by Labour Behind the Label and Homeworkers Worldwide, to persuade companies including Clarks and Stylo to acknowledge the presence of homeworkers in their supply chains, ensuring that they work in decent conditions and have access to their rights.

Human rights groups condemn murder of Philippine trade union leader

Labour Behind the Label is joining The Center for Trade Union and Human Rights (CTUHR)and the Asia Human Rights Commission in strongly condemning the ambush and murder of Gerardo “Gerry” Cristobal, a union organizer in Cavite at around 8:00 o’clock in the morning on March 10th 2008. He died instantly of multiple gunshot wounds.
